Preparing Smart Solutions for Smart Cities

By Anshuman Singh, Director, Product Management of Application Security, Barracuda Networks
Cities drive the economic growth of every nation. With only 31% of India's population currently urbanized and constituting 63% of India's GDP (up from 45% in 1990), urban sections of the society have clearly been the key engine of growth acceleration in the past decade. And with the initiatives of the current Indian government such as Digital India, these sections are now becoming highly advanced in terms of overall infrastructure, sustainable real estate and communications. The urban regions in India are hence being expected to contribute 70-75% of its GDP by 2020, Barclays said in a report.

Containers meet Microservices, DevOps, and the Internet-of-Things

By: Gordon Haff, Red Hat Technology Evangelist
To cope with an increasingly networked and interconnected world, industrial automation is evolving to incorporate many of the new or repurposed technologies underpinning general-purpose computing. For example, the Internet-of-Things (IoT) is especially interesting today because a number of converging technology trends are making useful solutions more practical: low-power and inexpensive processors for pervasive sensors, wireless networks, and the ability to store and analyze large amounts of data, both at the edge and in centralized data centers. IoT opens vast possibilities for information gathering and automation. This in turn gives rise to new opportunities to innovate, increase revenues, and gain efficiencies.
