Indian mobile wallet major, MobiKwik, announced its association with Bhopal Plus, part of Bhopal Smart City initiative, a one-stop web portal and mobile application for facilitation of government-citizen engagement and collaboration, as a step towards the national Smart Cities Mission. The tie-up will enable residents of Bhopal in paying taxes and bills for utility services such as electricity and water, digitally. Bhopal Plus also provides a platform to apply for birth and death certificates, marriage registration and register complaints on civic amenities.

Cities drive the economic growth of every nation. With only 31% of India's population currently urbanized and constituting 63% of India's GDP (up from 45% in 1990), urban sections of the society have clearly been the key engine of growth acceleration in the past decade. And with the initiatives of the current Indian government such as Digital India, these sections are now becoming highly advanced in terms of overall infrastructure, sustainable real estate and communications. The urban regions in India are hence being expected to contribute 70-75% of its GDP by 2020, Barclays said in a report.

Sterlite Technologies has won the Jaipur Smart City Phase - II Project. Jaipur, the Pink City, was selected under the Smart City Mission of Ministry of Urban Development launched in 2015. This is Sterlite’s second smart city project win.

More than 20 cities are now participating in the IEEE Smart Cities Initiative, and that number will only go up, predicts Gilles Betis, the initiative’s chair. The program is a global, multidisciplinary effort through which IEEE seeks to help municipalities address the huge demands on land, resources, and services associated with population growth.

Jaipur, one of India’s most popular global travel destinations, will now embrace the benefits of connectivity and digitisation to transform itself into a Smart+Connected city. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has chosen to develop smart city infrastructures that will improve the efficiency and quality of services received by its 3.5 million residents and over 40 million tourists who visit the city every year. With this launch, Jaipur becomes one of the first state capitals in India to showcase a comprehensive roadmap to become a world-class smart city.

The Essel Group has recently entered into technology transfer pacts with three leading German firms during its participation at the world’s largest trade fair Hannover Messe 2015 in Germany. This will boost the group’s solar, wind energy and waste water management projects in India.
